TotalSim CFD Process

TotalSim has a number of custom methods for increasing the productivity and decreasing the cost of running a CFD simulation. This process enables a high-volume workflow. What once took a single engineer weeks to run a single simulation, now that same engineer can output multitudes of results in days. The same tools and methods illustrated below are available to any client that has purchased our software and support contract.

Our Meshing Process

If you want to make our process part of yours:

For vehicular externals and cooling work, TotalSim has an automated process for meshing client CAD geometry. An OpenFoam® mesher 'TSsnappyHexMesh' is used on the CAD or scanned geometry and performs the following steps:

  • Calculates intersectiaons with mesh
  • Refines to a given level
  • Deletes mesh outside fluid region
  • “Snaps” mesh to surface and feature edges
  • Grows layers

What this automated meshing enables is rapid turnaround time and reduced engineering hours, allowing for more time to be spent on the domain problem.

Totalsim has developed custom OpenFoam® solvers that provide the following benefits and modifications:

  • Tools to automatically set and check boundary conditions
  • Improved force and flow reporting
  • Recommended schemes / settings / strategies
  • Additional turbulence models
  • Fan / porous jump boundary conditions

These solvers are also customized to enable the following:

  • Incompressible RANS
  • DES / LES
  • Fully compressible flow
  • Thermal modelling/ Macro Heat Exchanger 
  • Multiphase / free surface flows
  • Noise analysis
  • (Aerospace solvers under development)
  • Adjoint solver under development

Our post-processing Process

TotalSim has developed scripts and applications to automate the post-processing of the large amount of data that is generated by the solvers. The automatic generation of images, movies, and tabulated data allows for more time and results to be analyzed.
